Challenge

Sustained Work Rates and Zero Ground Impact

The P100 Pro demonstrated a highly competitive work rate for aerial seeding. On smaller fields, which required more frequent relocation, the drone averaged 8 hectares per hour. On the larger fields, the team was able to easily sustain 20 hectares per hour. The project was completed in a tight window, achieving the required establishment without any ground compaction or crop damage, and successfully providing winter feed for the farm’s flock of over 900 sheep.

Solution

High-Speed Aerial Seeding

AutoSpray Systems deployed the XAG P100 Pro to rapidly broadcast the seed mix into the standing wheat. The drone solution allowed for application without following established tramlines or using diesel. The job involved fields ranging from 4 to 40 hectares and a quick turnaround, providing a real-world test of the platform’s efficiency across varied conditions. The project also included operators from AutoSpray Pilot Network, demonstrating the practical application of AutoSpray’s training programmes.

Result

Productivity and Viability Restored

The project was a masterclass in efficiency and safety. The drone completed the cleaning of the first entire widespan unit by lunchtime. The pilot was confident he could complete three or four similar units in a single day. This transformed a three-week, high-risk job into a safe and remarkably fast operation. By restoring light levels, the drone application directly translates to improved crop health and yield, proving that drone technology can provide a new, safe, and profitable lease of life for the UK’s legacy horticultural assets.
