Industry Focus: Last Year’s ‘Novelty’ Has Become Today’s ‘Normality’

We’ve just about dried out from Cereals. If the show proved one thing, it’s that drones are no longer a futuristic concept – they are a current standard on UK farms. We had a brilliant time connecting with customers, industry partners, and pilots across our network. The level of interest and technical discussion on the stand was exceptional.

Most exciting of all, XAG drones were everywhere you looked this year. Our platforms were highly visible across the showground, including on key stands like Harper Adams and De Sangosse. They have firmly become part of the farming landscape and we only expect that prevalence to grow. Unmanned aerial application steps in precisely when tight agronomic windows close, whether you are battling heavy ground conditions or trying to protect dense, well-developed crops where traditional tramline rigs inevitably cause severe crop damage.

Autonomous aerial application is stretching far beyond traditional arable fields. We recently flew the XAG P100 Pro right outside the Air Traffic Control window at Manchester Barton Aerodrome to reseed the hardest-working areas of their grass runways. A job that usually takes the airport team a full week to complete was wrapped up seamlessly in just 90 minutes – with zero ground compaction and minimal facility downtime.

It is a fantastic example of the operational edge that drone technology holds over conventional rigs when time and access are critical. This runway project is just the tip of the iceberg for the commercial work out there for contractors ready to step into the infrastructure and utilities space.
